RightBrainBusinessPlan.com is the brain child of Jennifer Lee, a business entrepreneur and author of the very successful “The Right Brain Business Plan” book. This site offers you a small glimpse of the select few products and services offered, but little else. However, given the positive feedback on Lee’s merchandise and training sessions, this may be something that you’ll be interested in pursuing, particularly if you’re interested in keeping your business interesting and fun.
Lee’s ethos seems to be that business can be fun as well as profitable. Like her site, Lee seems to have tons of energy and enthusiasm, and has even been training other business entrepreneurs. The primary product on offer is a business plan book. The “right brain” is assumedly linked to the theory that the right side of the brain is the ‘creative’ side, as well as making the ‘right’ business decisions. The book is colourful and entertaining, full of illustrations and photos, easy to follow advice and activities. Sales are made through Amazon, the paperback coming in at around $14.65, or a Kindle version costing a little less at around £12.30. Customer reviews are almost entirely positive, with 46 out of the 61 reviews giving the book 5 starts (there is only one 1 star review and 1 two star review). Essentially it converts the dull process of business planning into a series of interesting and engaging exercises. Once you’ve completed the exercises…voila! You have a business plan.
You have the option to download free files if you’ve purchased the book, which provide the worksheets and some of the exercise notes you’ll need. This is a clever addition because it means you can print off as many as you need, for as many plans or edits you want to make. As well as the book you can also purchase a creative kit which accompanies the book and provides extra exercises and supplies to help make your business plan. If you feel that the book may not be enough and you really need a bit of extra inspiration and advice, then you can take advantage of two extra services: an e-course or a facilitated group. The e-courses are essentially online scheduled programs which set you tasks and assignments, as well as providing additional information and guidance. Meanwhile the facilitated groups are small seminars / workshops where you’ll meet other entrepreneurs. These are led by members who have adopted the Right-Brain Business Plan ethos and have paid to become a facilitator and lead workshops. You can even become one of these leaders yourself!
The big drawback to this site, however good the products are, is that it doesn’t offer any online tools for creating business plans. The quality business plans ultimately depends on how well you follow the advice and your own capabilities. The site is more of a sales pitch than anything else, and offers no real information on creating business plans, so you simply have to rely on the testimonials of other customers. That said, the book isn’t expensive, and the online course is offered at a very reasonable price. These products and services are therefore probably most suited to someone who is highly self motivated and is interested in putting a bit of fun back into their business ideas.
